Nora Beirne is a mixed media artist with a studio at the Calian Centre in old Kanata. She has studied at the Ottawa School of Art over the years, and participates in workshops in both Canada and the US as part of her voyage of creative discovery. Her work has been met with enthusiastic response since her first show in 2002.

Continuing to strive for creative expression, Nora draws on her background as architectural designer, dance teacher and choreographer, mother of three grown children and extensive traveller. During her travels she photographs a range of images; closeup textures, architectural details, inviting landscapes, rural and urban. Images that intrigue, sometimes puzzle and always inspire. Many of these find their way into her work. Her mixed media collages reflect a fascination with intense colours and their relation to each other through the use of shape, size and texture. She continues to explore the juxtaposition of light and dark.

Through her art Nora explores human relationships, and intangible concepts like time, life journeys and love; often through the use of poetic words and phrases partially hidden within. Her work with glass, mosaic and encaustic processes lead her to combine these techniques, often resulting in illusions of stained glass and tile-like mosaics crafted with papers. Hand-stained papers employed throughout her art are a hallmark of her style.
